Woodland's Favorite Frame (our little secret) Framing: 4 1/2" Masterpiece Frame with Linen Liner Title: Boulevard De Grand Case Artist: Cindy Lou Medium: Acrylic glaze painted over digital painting on canvas giclee
Make it a masterpiece at an affordable price! We call this frame 'Woodland's Favorite' because it has a masterpiece look, it's a really good price, it's the one moulding we have that is not from any of our regular suppliers, and so we decided to make it our little secret and use it on Woodland samples, displays, and store signage. You'll even see it on our ads, coupons, and promotional materials.
Regarding the print, often we overpaint our giclees with natural media and protective glazes. Doing this to giclees, and even poster prints, gives them a fine art look at feel and approximately doubles the archival life expectancy of the piece.
Gallery Wrapped, Giclees On Canvas Framing: Gallery Wrapped Stretched Canvases Title: 4 Flowers Grouping Artist: Cindy Lou Medium: Digital Paintings
Save money! Hang it, without having to frame it! Gallery wrapped, fine art giclee canvases are a good way to go for both painters and photographers. The print reproductions are better, and more archival, than typical fine art prints. Customers like it because they can display their art without the cost of custom framing. Done well, this a very attractive, clean and simple way to display your art.

Shadowbox - Antique Memorabilia Framing: 3" Deep Shadowbox Title: Spanish American War Flag w/ medals & photos Artist: Gary Walker / Hannah Tubbs
Protect the value of your collections! A customer brought to Woodland this antique, over 100 year old, 46 star American flag from the Spanish American War. The photos, dog tags, and medal belong to their grandfather who served in the war.
The goal for this piece was to display the flag in a fashion that made the unique number of stars visible, and display the photos with the medals which were very small relative to the size of the flag. Woodland's solution was to dimensionally float mount the photos in an arrangement that overlapped the stripes of the flag, and attached the medals to the photos. The frame moulding style had an antique wood block appearance which perfectly complemented the 'antique, military' look and feel of the piece.
Shadowbox - Family Heirlooms Framing: 3" Deep Shadowbox Title: Baby Baptismal Outfit Artist: Niki Russos
Preserve those keepsakes to last for generations! Who doesn't have something from their childhood, or given to them by a family member, that's stuffed in a box and tucked away in the attic? These are some of the most cherished family treasures we own. Unfortunately, unless they are properly preserved, they often are lost to moisture and/or insect damage. Shadowboxes are a perfect way to display, and preserve these items for generations to come.
This shadowbox was designed and created by Niki Russos (one of Woodland's framers) to display her baptismal outfit, her favorite stuffed toy bunny, a photo of her wearing the outfit, plus a lock of her hair and baby bracelet. The interior of the shadowbox is completely lined with velvet matboard and the frame has been sponge painted with pink to match the color of the materials inside.
An "out-of-the-box" Shadowbox (sort of) Framing: Timber style frame, suede mat board, fillet, glazed giclee canvas, and 3d keepsakes Title: Norwegian cabin with stone, nail, and wood Artist(s): Gary Walker, Cindy Lou & Hannah Tubbs
Now this one was a challenge! The customer came to us with a 4x6 photo of a painting of an old cabin in Norway owned by his grandfather along with a piece of stone, a chunk of wood and a nail. Since the cabin no longer existed, they wanted ideas on how to assemble this into a family heirloom.
We decided, instead of a typical shadowbox, it should look like an original painting with the objects embedded into the frame. So, we scanned the photo, applied digital painting techniques to enhance the original painting appearance, printed it on canvas and over-painted the final piece with a textured acrylic glaze. Finally, we chose an antique timber style frame with a suede mat and fillet. Holes were cut through the mat so the objects could be both hot-glued and wired to the backing board.
Framed Needlepoint / Cross-Stitch Framing: Wood frame with handpainted mat Title: Daisy Needlepoint Artist(s): Niki Russos
Anything that takes this much time, deserves a beautiful frame! This piece was created by our framer, Niki Russos. Niki loves to sew, make needlepoints and cross stitch projects. This, in addition to the fact that she is Certified Professional Framer, is the reason why she specializes in framing fabric arts. Niki also loves frame restoration and decorative accents.
In this piece, Niki pressed the fabric, then stretched and pinned it around an acid-free backing board. She chose a blue mat to enhance some of the colors in the image and then handpainted a decorative 'dot' border around the edge of the mat.
Double Frame / Float Mount Framing: Two frame mouldings, suede mat, float mount Title: French Street Scene Artist(s): Larson Juhl Sample
Float mount display torn edge of art paper! Occassionally, our frame moulding suppliers, offer us special, limited edition prints as a way of demonstrating new framing ideas and materials. This piece from Larson Juhl demonstrates how to combine two frame mouldings to make a wider more unique looking frame. Also, they chose a suede mat with a fillet for the mat window openining. The fine art giclee has been float mounted to enhance the torn paper edge giving it a handmade paper look and feel. A fillet was added to the mat window opening.
Canvas Floater Frames Framing: Canvas in timberwood style floater frame Title: "Morning Mist", Digital Painting Artist(s): Gary Walker
Gallery wrapped canvas mounted in floater frame! This is a relatively new, and unique way, to frame canvases. The canvas is 'floated' with about a 1/4" space from the inside of the frame on all 4 sides. This gives the art canvas the appearance of floating within the frame while still allowing you a dimensional view of the sides of the canvas. This is especially desirable if the canvas sides are either painted or finished with a border color.
